Panduan Untuk Editor

Submission Stage:

  1. Editors have the authority to reject, continue to the next stage, or accept journal articles submitted by authors. When conveying these decisions, editors can provide messages through the discussion feature in OJS. In providing feedback or instructions to authors, editors should use polite, clear, and specific language. In addition, the editor needs to include a clear deadline for the writer to complete the revision. Usually, authors are given 2-3 weeks to complete the revision after receiving suggestions from the editor. Guidelines on how to send a message can be found at the following link
  2. The editor ensures that journal articles submitted by authors are in accordance with the Focus and Scope of the Journal of Political Issues.
  3. The editor ensures that the submitted journal article is in accordance with the Journal of Political Issues (JPI) Template.
    1. Technically, the layout of the article must fully follow the JPI template. If there is any discrepancy, the editor can send a message to the author via the discussion menu in OJS..
    2. If the article does not match the journal template, the editor can provide a message for the author to download the official template via the link provided. Example of message: “Please adjust the layout of your article to the official JPI template which can be downloaded on the website".
    3. Here's the link to download the template: Bahasa Indonesia atau Bahasa Inggris.
  4. The editor conducts the first plagiarism check and ensures that the similarity rate of the article is below 20%. If the similarity rate exceeds this limit, there are two actions to take: advise the author to reduce the similarity rate, or reject the article outright.
  5. Editors must do the following before entering the reviewer stage:
    1. The editor should check that the article has included all the necessary elements, such as: title, abstract, keywords, introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusion, and bibliography..
    2. Make sure the article is written in clear, academic language, and free of grammatical or spelling errors. So that later when published, readers do not experience miscommunication.
    3. Editors need to ensure that the references in the article have been organized using a reference management tool such as Mendeley. If not, the editor should send a message to the author to correct the references using Mendeley or another reference manager. The Journal of Political Issues applies the APA 7th Style of referencing.
  6. After all the initial stages have been properly screened, then the next step:
    1. The editor first names the final file "Siap untuk di review.docx".
    2. The file in question must omit the author's identity, both under the title and in the about the author section below the abstract. This is important because the Journal of Political Issues implements a “Double Blind Review” system, where authors and reviewers do not know each other's identities.
    3. The editor conducts the second plagiarism check. However, it should be noted that the file to be checked for plagiarism must first have the author's identity removed, as the file will later be submitted to the reviewer. If the level of similarity is still above 20%, then the editor can provide advice to the author to reduce the level of plagiarism or similarity to below 20%.
    4. The editor will send a message to the author with the subject line “The article can proceed to the next stage
    5. The content of the message can be customized, for example: “Dear Author, We have conducted a preliminary examination of your article and are pleased to inform you that the article can proceed to the review stage. Thank you for your contribution. We will contact you shortly regarding further developments”.
    6. Add an attachment file in the form of a final article file that has been approved by the editor (Siap untuk di review.docx) and Plagiarism check result file
    7. After that, the editor can click the “Send to Review” menu. Here's how to do it see the following link
  7. Jika penulis tidak mengindahkan atau terlambat mengirimkan saran dari editor, maka editor berhak untuk menolak artikel yang dikirimkan melalui menu “Decline Submission”.

Review Stage:

  1. First make sure that “Review Files” already has “Article Text, Ready for Review” and make sure that all author identities are gone. If it has not disappeared, please delete and re-upload files that really do not have the author's identity.
  2. The editor attaches the file containing the results of the second plagiarism check conducted during the submission stage to the same menu, "Review Files". Ensure that the file does not include the author's identity. If the author's identity is still present, please conduct the plagiarism check on a file that has completely removed any author identification.
  3. After these steps are completed, the next step is to add a reviewer. The following procedures can be seen at this link.
  4. The next step is to ensure that the reviewer has completed the review process and then ask the author to revise the article according to the input from the reviewer. The following procedures can be seen at this link.
Important Notes: Emphasize to the author that any improvements based on comments and suggestions given by the reviewer must be marked red in the text to indicate that the section has been revised.
  5. Emphasis on the review stage, The final decision in the review process is entirely in the hands of the editor. Even if the reviewer gives a judgment to reject, if the editor considers the article worthy of publication because it has excellent substance, the editor has the right to accept the article. Conversely, if the reviewer recommends accepting the article, but the editor feels that the article is not good enough in substance, the editor can decide to reject it.
It should be emphasized again that the editor has full authority to accept or reject articles to be published, while the reviewer only acts as a provider of input to the editor. If in Round 1 of the review the editor still has doubts, the editor can continue the review process to the next stage, namely Round 2.

Copyediting Stage:

  1. The editor sends a message to the author and attaches the file “Siap untuk di Copyediting.docx”. In the message, the editor reminds the author to rewrite their identity in the article at the bottom of the title and below the abstract "About Author", according to the JPI template..
  2. In addition, the editor must check the entire article technically, make sure there are no typing errors by the author, if there are author errors, the editor must put a red mark on the part that must be corrected and then send the article back to the author for correction. Use google doc to check for errors in writing.
  3. In addition, check the bibliography made by the author, whether it has used mendeley or not, is in accordance with APA Style 7th or not. If not, please give a message to the author to improve in accordance with JPI provisions.
  4. Write the Message like this:

    Subject: Follow-Up on Your Article

    Dear Author,

We have attached the file “Ready for Copyediting.docx” for your article. In this document, we would like to remind you to rewrite your identity in the article under the title and under the abstract, in accordance with the Journal of Political Issues (JPI) template.

Additionally, we have conducted a technical check of the entire article. Please review it, and if there are any typing errors, we have marked them in red for your correction. Kindly make the necessary corrections and return your article to us.

Lastly, we ask you to double-check the reference list you created. Ensure that you have used Mendeley and that the format complies with APA Style 7th. If there are any issues, please make the necessary adjustments according to JPI guidelines.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

    Best regards,
    [Editor Name]
    [Journal of Political Issues]

  5. After the author has revised both stages, the next step is for the editor to check the author's plagiarism using Turnitin for The Third Time. The provisions remain below 20% if it exceeds then the editor is obliged to convey a message to the author to improve the article until it is below 20%.
  6. After completing all the steps, then inform the Journal Editor through “Copyediting Discussions” that the article is ready.
  7. Then, the Journal editor will assign the Copyeditor to do templating. (Here the Copyeditor accepts articles that are really good and does templating on journal articles that are really finalized so that there are no errors).
  8. The editor's task is completed until this stage and is continued by the Journal editor, Copyeditor, and Production Editor.

Warning for Editors

A quality article is highly dependent on the editor's decision. Therefore, it is important for editors to be careful in making decisions and minimize technical errors, such as mistakenly clicking the “Send to Review” option to “Decline Submission”, or vice versa. In addition, it is important to maintain integrity as an editor by avoiding potential Conflict of Interest that may affect the article assessment process.
