Examining the Role of Kamisan Action in Shaping Movement Strategy
Menelaah Peran Aksi Kamisan dalam Pembentukan Strategi Gerakan
Abstract
Kamisan action is a peaceful action that is carried out routinely on Thursdays every week as a form of protest to the state for human rights violations and violence committed without resolution and forgiveness. Kamisan action is a form of pressure on the government to rush to resolve various cases of human rights violations that have not yet found a bright road. This paper explores Kamisan as a collective movement that pressures the government to rush to resolve a number of abandoned cases of human rights violations. The Kamisan action uses a form of peaceful demonstration as a form of protest to the state while showing respect for the victims without involving violence. The movement has experienced ups and downs for 17 years. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Primary data came from interviews with victims' families, the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence, and academics. The analysis includes grouping the findings into themes or categories, and interpreting the meaning in descriptive form. The results show that the kamisan action is a collective movement to fight injustice in the settlement of human rights violations in Indonesia. Using a number of symbols as the identity of the movement. Rooted in emotional attachment and solidarity between the participants of the action, especially for the victims and their families who did not receive a fair settlement. Although the pressure exerted on the government has met with resistance that has led to impunity.
