Analisis Teori Spiral of Silence pada Persepsi Publik tentang Citra Polisi oleh Media Massa

Abstract

Stigma masyarakat mengenai citra polisi dalam berbagai perspektif baik dan buruk cukup berkembang pada masa ini. Teori "spiral of silence" mengemukakan bahwa individu mendasarkan pembacaan opini publik mereka pada serangkaian isyarat di lingkungan mereka, mulai dari surat kabar dan media massa hingga membentuk opini. Peneliti ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran dari pemberitaan publik mengenai citra polisi yang dikaitkan dengan teori spiral of silence yang memfokuskan pada bagaimana masyarakat menghubungkan perspektif publik secara kolektif. Studi ini menggunakan analisis framing dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dan analisis wacana. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa praktik teori "Spiral of Silence" beradaptasi untuk mengatasi krisis sentimen publik terkait polisi. Teori ini secara kuat menyebutkan efek perspektif kolektif (masyarakat) dapat mempengaruhi pandangan secara umum sebagai bentuk kontrol social. Hal ini juga berlaku pada efek pemberitaan-pemberitaan mengenai kinerja polisi baik yang tertuang secara surat kabar, televisi, maupun jejaring online. Masyarakat sangat sensitif terhadap citra negatif polisi di media polisi perlu memberikan perhatian khusus untuk mengurangi kinerja negatif polisi yang disajikan di media. Cara terbaik untuk mengurangi jumlah informasi negatif yang melibatkan polisi adalah dengan meningkatkan kualitas kinerja polisi. Korelasinya pada teori yang dikembangkan pada tulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa paparan media dapat menjadi penting, terutama ketika menampilkan citra negatif polisi.

Mikhael Yulius Cobis, Institut Komunikasi dan Bisnis LSPR

completed his Masters in Communication Science at STIKOM LSPR in 2012, and Masters in Management at the Veteran National Development University Jakarta in 2015. Currently the author is continuing his S-3 studies at the Postgraduate Doctoral Program in Communication Science at Sahid University Jakarta. The author is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Communication Science at LSPR Institute of Communication & Business.

Udi Rusadi, Institut Ilmu Sosial Dan Ilmu Politik

completed his doctoral studies at the University of Indonesia in 2003. Currently the author is a lecturer in the Department of Communication Science at the Jakarta Institute of Social and Political Sciences.
