Abstract

This research aims to understand the struggle of La Via Campesina member farmer organizations in Ecuador to successfully integrate the food sovereignty agenda into the 2008 Ecuadorian Constitution. The theoretical framework used is social movement by focusing on the elements of mobilization structure to understand the emergence and development of a social movement in fighting for its political agendas. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study research type. While the data collection technique used is a documentation study with secondary data analysis techniques. The results of this study show that this success was supported by a number of factors, namely (a) the role of LVC in disseminating the idea of food sovereignty at the global level, which in turn became a point of reference for the struggles of member organizations at the national level, (b) the organization's capacity to mobilize network resources, and (c) mobilization and direct participation in the legal drafting process of the constitution by taking advantage of the open political opportunities under the Rafael Correa government.
