Analysis of FIFA's Authority over the Revocation of Indonesia's Status as Host of the 2023 U-20 Football World Cup
Analisis Kewenangan FIFA atas Pencabutan Status Indonesia sebagai Tuan Rumah Piala Dunia Sepak Bola U-20 2023
Abstract
FIFA's revocation of Indonesia's hosting status for the 2023 U-20 World Cup has been a disappointment for Indonesian football activists. FIFA's statement regarding "due to the current circumstances" did not clearly explain the real reason for the revocation of the status, the statement was more associated with the rejection of the arrival of the Israeli National Football Team at the world cup by several Regional Heads in Indonesia, as well as the elements of the Muslim community. Therefore, in this article, FIFA's decision will be examined in terms of its authority as an International Organization actor who has the authority and independence in providing an assessment of the situation faced in carrying out the objectives of its formation. The review of the decision uses a constructivism approach regarding the power possessed by international organizations as rational actors through the legitimacy given to them. Furthermore, the situation mentioned by FIFA as the reason for revoking the status will be examined through the international organization's power such as Classification, the Fixing of Meanings and Diffusing of Norms. These three approaches will be examined through the Statute document owned by FIFA which explains the principles of organization and implementation that become an obligation by the parties. Through this approach, a rational explanation is obtained regarding the possible reasons for FIFA's statement, namely based on respect for the value of rights and equality and commitment to the state's obligation to provide security for all match stakeholders
